This organization's purpose is to bring together, monthly, women committed to improving the conditions in their communities in the USA, the Caribbean and Africa. We welcome new-comers to the District of Columbia and the metro area, particularly those at the African embassies, educational institutions, and the development and international agencies. We work on specific projects to improve the well-being of women and children through fundraising and sponsorship activities. Volunteers are always encouraged. We want to keep abreast of events in the Diaspora through lectures, trips, and seminars.
Our next AAWA meeting will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2015 12:30-2:30 pm EARLIER TIME
A nominating committee of three (3) members shall be elected in March. AAWA has very compelling programming planned for the celebration of International Month of the Woman. So many of our own AAWA women have projects in America and abroad that impact people of color in the world. We will hear from a few and be able to ask questions. Location will be Petworth Neighborhood Library Lower Level 4300 Kansas Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20011 (at Georgia). This is again a potluck event so please tell us what you plan to bring. Coordinate your contributions of food, beverage, or $ with AAWA Jackie Garrison 240-298-9953 firstname.lastname@example.org RSVP to 301-587-1493 or email@example.com.
''I would like us to raise money to be able to expand our outreach to others. This will involve focus on our non-profit status to the full extent possible. We will support each other, learn from each other, and embrace the needs of others through research, collaboration, and funding when appropriate. As we build our financial reserves, we can explore more giving. I wish to have AAWA become a focal point for women's concerns by adding committees on art, health, computer and graphic design, travel, education, web presence, book club, business entrepreneurship, and, most excitingly, a youth committee for girls 12-20 years old.''
Mrs. M. ''Kelly'' Kelly, President of AAWA 2013-2015
